Management and Recruitment
Organisations such as finance, retail, local and national government, building and construction, advertising, media, the armed forces, legal, charities and the NHS - need graduate management entrants. Graduate-trainee schemes offer the opportunity to take responsibility, meet deadlines, to be in charge of other people, solve problems and prove your leadership qualities.
Graduates often start work in an administrative capacity and work their way up the ladder. Through a graduate management training scheme, a graduate enters an accelerated entry path into a managerial post. For a prospective graduate manager, each industry sector offers its own challenges. A graduate's experience of hotel management is very different from managing a call-centre; however, many of the graduate skills required by prospective employers are similar. Graduates are expected to have some level of commercial awareness, people skills, communication skills, motivation and enthusiasm.
The majority of companies hiring graduates have a similar structure. Directors and senior managers make strategic decisions, middle and lower management implement the logistics; and general staff carry out the necessary tasks. Graduate managers in small organisations, often find themselves involved in areas across an entire business - allowing them to build their skills in leadership and decision making.
Graduate entrants are often recruited to work on specific tasks or projects as well as in general management roles. Graduate managers can work in any job sector and specialise in practically any area. A graduate with a specific skill, often acquired as an elective during graduate studies, can offer opportunities in Sales, Marketing, HR (Human Resources), Logistics, Finance, Legal support or IT/Informatics.
