A comment on; As Donald Rumsfeld almost said about information/knowledge management jobs, ‘large organisations know a lot of things, but they don't always know what they know, or know who knows where it is'.
Information/knowledge management jobs are within a key management discipline focusing on the effective gathering, organisation, and storage of information within organisations but, more than that, information/knowledge management jobs manage the dissemination and flow of information and knowledge.
In traditional organisations, without information/knowledge management jobs, knowledge tends to push from the top down. However, that style of information/knowledge management seldom results in making knowledge available when and where it's needed most. In organisations with information/knowledge management jobs managing knowledge, information can flow across internal structures, enhancing customer services delivery, promoting the organisation's goals and empowering employees. In its basic form information/knowledge management jobs involve the examination of data, linking these data to form information, and from that extract knowledge. One could argue that the end result of information/knowledge management jobs is to develop wisdom.
